On July 30 a lovely guest visited the gallery. It was an American artist of Ukrainian origin Christina Katrakis. Despite the fairly busy schedule and pace of life, Christina was able to attend the opening of her exhibition in Kirovograd. The Exhibition "Moments of Life" includes 26 canvases that were painted in different years.They which have something in common - they reflect the author's childhood experiences and memories of the 80s and 90s.
A series of works presented at the gallery were created especially for Ukraine. Paintings make you think, some make you smile, some make you surprise. But one fact is without any doubt, they are all written sincerely. The exposition attracted great interest and response among professionals and art lovers.
Christina Kushtch-Katrakis is an American artist of Ukrainian origin, an art historian, an art critic and a teacher. Besides, she is an Honorary Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (2008)
Christina Katrakis was born on December, 16, 1980 in Kiev, in the family of sculptor Anatoliy Kushtch and ethnographer and art historian Helen Kushtch (Pilkevich). Her great-grandfather Xenophon Katrakis was a famous monumental painter and icon painter of the Orthodox Greek temples (and his name Christina took for her).
When Christina was 12, she traveled with her parents to the United States. Her father secured there an order to create a monument in Chicago. Then her parents returned home and Christina entered the English International Language Institute in Washington (1992-1993). From 1993 to 1994 she had been studying at the Catholic school of St. Nicholas in Chicago and at the same time at specialized school "Glen Eco".
From 1994 till 1998 she had been studying at Kiev Art School named after Taras Shevchenko. In 1996-1998 she had been attending courses in Art, Art history and Anatomy in Italy and France (Academy of Lorenzo de 'Medici in Florence and the Sorbonne University in Paris).
In 1998-2000 she had been studying at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kiev (workshops of Shatalin and Yablonska). Also she had been attending courses in History and Archeology at Kiev National Taras Shevchenko University.
In 2002 she received the Degree of Bachelor of Arts (BA) and the Degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) at the University of Arkansas, and a year later she received the Degree of Master of Arts (MA). In 2005 she defended her thesis at the University of Memphis and a Master's Degree of Fine Arts (MFA). Since then, she had been teaching at the University of Arkansas first, and then at the University of Memphis.(She teaches Drawing, Structural Drawing / Anatomy, Painting, Watercolor.
Thanks to the knowledge of many languages, among which is Greek, Christina Katrakis delivers lectures on Art Criticism, Art History and Contemporary Art, provides supervision in art galleries.
In 2000 she was a private tutor in Art, the founder, director and instructor of the Program of Private Academy of Arts Kallista Art Academy (Greece, Italy and the United States). In 2007 she had been lecturing in Greece during the educational tour, at the Art Center MBG Art Center and Brooks Museum of Art (Memphis,2010). In 2010-2011 she had been lecturing at the Katrakis Gallery, where she is the owner and curator. In 2011 she lectured and provides supervision in Mironova Gallery. In 2011-2012 she had been curating Art Fund of Museum of Voronov. In 2005-2012 she had been working at the exhibitions in museums and galleries in the U.S. and other countries (Christie's auction).
For a series of paintings "The Zone» she got the United Nations Award in the Field of Arts «Freedom to Create».
